International Apple Store Codes

A Connected Flow Enterprise

In this hyper-shorthand world of character limits and fast communication about razor-thin stock levels, there has never been a more pressing need for a shorthand way to refer to your local Apple Store.

We present the International Apple Store Code (IASCO) standard.

Inspired by the IATA standard for airports, IASCO provides a short three-letter code for every Apple Store in the world, and a short URL redirection service to link to that store.

Why?

Take the Apple Store, Glasgow Buchanan Street. Any way you describe this store, it's still long-winded. The Apple URL is 45 characters, which barely leaves you enough space to tweet about the number of white iPhone 4s they don't have. Enter the IASCO. We've given Buchanan Street the code GBU and the short URL http://iasco.de/GBU - much neater.

A Note on Style

We've tried to avoid clashing with IATA codes for well-known airports, but there may be conflicts. To avoid ambiguity, the recommended way to refer to an IASCO code is to prefix it with the Option-Shift-K Apple symbol (e.g. GBU) or, if you're on an iOS device and can't directly type that symbol, try Neven Mrgan's GlyphBoard web app.

Updates

We'll try and keep this up to date. If you see something missing, you can fork the Github repo and send a pull request.
